Comics

Calvin & Hobbes

This comic has a magic that has yet to be rekindled by anyone. I don't think that we'll ever get another Calvin & Hobbes. This comic was very close to me growing up, and it's stuck with me for years as one of my favorite pieces of media. My favorite strip is the Sunday comic where Calvin's dad talks about how the world used to be in black and white, which is why old photos are just like that.

Manga

Dungeon Meshi

After seeing the first episode of the anime adaptation of this, I knew I had to read the manga. It was so good, I binged it all in like one week. This gets the highest recommendation from me out of anything else in this section. The author, Ryoko Kui, is an incredibly talented artist and writer, and is one of my favorite manga artists of all time. Look up her Daydream Hour books to see just how good she is at drawing diverse female characters!

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

Ok, look. I know how Jojo's Bizarre fans are. If you don't wanna watch or read Jojo's I completely understand. I regard it as an absolute masterpiece of a manga and anime, but it's not for everyone. Personally, I love the aspect of having weird-ass niche situational superpowers that are incredibly OP, and Jojo's is really good at doing that. It's one of my favs, but it's ok if it's not yours.

The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn't a Guy at All

I love yuri manga with a passion and this is one of the best. One of my favorite parts of this manga is the color scheme, specifically with how the artist only uses black, white, and light green. It makes this manga really pop and is a joy to read. It's also pretty funny too! 10/10 yuri manga would read again

Rent-A-Girlfriend

This is here as a joke lmao don't read this gooner shit 0/10

Webtoons/Webcomics

Live With Yourself!

This was the webtoon that got me hooked on webtoons. I still can't believe this one's over. I don't know if I've shared it much on this website, but my weird micro-interest is examining how time travel fiction handles their time travel, cuz there's a few different ways they like to do it. Live With Yourself is one of my favs, and I love how absurd the entire concept of this webtoon is while still being heartfelt and a great time.

I want to be a cute anime girl

One of my favorite webtoons! If you're trans, a bunch of this is gonna feel incredibly relatable (just how I like it). Azul Crescent is such a good writer and artist, and it's a joy to see in this comic.

El Goonish Shive

EGS is a comic that I've followed consistently for an immensly long time (about 10 yrs), and it's kind of like a comfort media for me. Despite having a pretty messy start all the way back in 2002, this comic has grown immensly since then both in artstyle and storytelling, becoming one of my favorite pieces of queer media of all time, blending science fiction and fantasy together extremely well. Maybe don't read some of it in public tho?
